Introduction Through the realistic simulated crane-cab environment, crane operator performance can be exercised and assessed as they perform a variety of normal and emergency offshore crane operating scenarios. The virtual reality environment of the simulator, where nothing is broken and no-one hurt, allows dangerous operating scenarios to be run and an operator’s competence evaluated under pressure. The exercising of such scenarios boosts an operator’s confidence in his future ability to deal with any potentially hazardous incidents and situations that he might encounter. |   |

The Assessor's Scenario Selection: The assessor not only selects the loads to be transferred, but can also set and change environmental conditions during the exercise. Crane Characteristics The assessor has the ability to (electronically) set/reconfigure many of the crane’s basic settings/parameters such as: - Operational Malfunctions
- Banksman positions
- Weather worsening
- Helicopter Movements
- Inconsistent Communications
- Blind Lift Scenarios
These (and other) effects can be brought on at random by the Assessor to observe what the action the crane operator takes.
