Accredited by OPITO, the purpose of this course is to assess the knowledge and skills of the previously qualified or experienced banksman. The following areas are assessed or updated: - What offshore deck crews are expected to do
- The knowledge and skills they require to enable them to do safely what is expected of them
- Demonstration of those skills
- Effective training leading to safer practices at the worksite
- Technology and legislative updates
Each candidate will be required to inspect, prepare, produce written plans, select & attach the correct lifting equipment, and direct the crane operator to manoeuvre loads including: Tubulars, Containers, Bulk Hoses, Unbalanced loads and blind lifts. Delegates with prior experience that do not hold OPITO Stage 1/2 qualifications will require a testimony to prove a minimum of 2 years experience in the discipline. Assessment/Refreshment covers:
- Relevant legislation (LOLER 98) ACOPS, Relevant Standards, eg (BS 7121 Part 11)
- Safe systems of work (Permits, Toolbox talks, etc)
- Risk Assessment and control measures.
- Equipment pre-use inspection
- Safe use of equipment
- Slinging principles and technology
- Weight identification and estimation
- Placement of loads
- Disconnection of loading equipment
- Hand signalling and use of hand-held radios
- Appreciation of crane principles
- Appreciation of dynamic factors
- Awareness of conflicting activities
- Weather considerations
