THE HAVi - HAND ARM VIBRATION INDICATOR

  • Simple and user friendly
  • An effective innovative technology
  • A unique and affordable solution

How does it work?

The HAVi (hand arm vibration indicator) uses the latest technology available to control vibration exposure. The HAVi is a device that attaches to any powered vibratory tool and measures real anger time exposure. The device also allows the vibration magnitude to be set, as the anger time is measured the HSE points system is displayed. As the tool vibrates the exposure points will increase accordingly. When 100 points are reached an amber light will flash and when 400 points reached a red light will flash.

Compliance

1. Assess the risk

Vibration exposure MUST be compared to the current legal values, the exposure action value (EAV) and the exposure limit value (ELV). This is a difficult task as it can be very time consuming and very costly if consultants are used to assess this.

The HAVi can do this for you. It automatically compares real time vibration exposure to the EAV and ELV using the very simple HSE points system.
100pts - EAV
400pts - ELV

As the operative is using the piece of equipment the points accumulate so a constantly updating display of vibration exposure is shown. This device therefore helps you complete a very accurate risk assessment.

2. Control

Where exposure to vibration cannot be eliminated or reduced it needs to be controlled. The HAVi can manage exposure to vibration by informing the operative when to cease using a vibratory tool. It does this by flashing amber on 100pts and red when 400 pts is reached.

3. Inform

The HAVi is supplied with literature that can be incorporated into toolbox talks and also posters that can be placed around the work area so people can see how it works. This is backed up by our ‘SAFE HANDS’ campaign where we actively promote HAVS awareness.

4. Health surveillance

One of the most common complaints from employers when they have carried out health surveillance on HAVS, is that they may be asked to reduce exposure for certain operatives by their designated occupational health provider.

How does the HAVi do this?

By using the HAVi you can make use of the points system to reduce exposure. e.g. If an employees’ typical daily exposure is 200 pts then simply limit them to a maximum of say 100 pts.

Features & benefits

1. Clear User Display

Shows Magnitude/Time/HSE Points at real time on an integrated LCD Screen.

2. Flashing Warning Lights

Amber light flashes at EAV (Exposure Action Value) and Red light at ELV (Exposure Limit Value).

3. Self Contained Programmable Device

The HAVi can be programmed easily in seconds without the use of computers or software, making it highly operative friendly.

Customer Quotations

"Health and Safety issues are our main priority for all AMEC sites. I have been seeking a more effective method of monitoring the exposure of our workforce to the potential effects of using vibrating equipment. The HAVi is an innovative solution. As it is very easy to use, the HAVi should be a tremendous success on site for monitoring vibration exposure."

Ian Holliday
SHEQT Manager AMEC M1 Corridor Gas Alliance

"The HAVi would appear to be an effective and economical method of monitoring exposure to HAV. I am sure that the simplicity of operation will appeal to a lot of people."
