EnerMech uses its considerable experience in offshore crane maintenance and operations to assist oil and gas operators in their constant pursuit of reductions in unnecessary wastage. EnerMech recognised that wire ropes were often being discarded before the end of their useful life, simply because previous poor recording of operating times and incidents of rope failure from excessive usage had led to an over-cautious approach to deciding when a replacement was required. In answer to this problem, EnerMech has established its own, in-house NDT facility to allow in-depth checks to be made on the cross-sectional metallic content of wire ropes. Using magnetic inspection scanners, EnerMech can gauge to what degree corrosion, abrasion and general wear on the entire rope has affected its tensile strength and safety. This non-destructive testing facility has helped to increase the expected lives of ropes by up to 500% saving operators significant sums in unnecessary replacements. |
